Lehikoinen, Paul: In November 1934 my mother, my brother Arvo, my sister (Lily Saarimaki), and I arrived
in Geraldton by train. My father was awaiting our arrival at the temporary CNR station.
At the time, Main Street was a snow covered winter road which ran south to Lake Kenogamisis.
From the station my father pulled me and my sister on a sleigh while my mother and brother
pulled the family trunk on a second sleigh all the way down Main Street to John Street in
Jonesville. There a recently built small log house awaited our family's arrival.
My father had arrived earlier in the year and was employed by Little Long Lac Gold Mines
as a timberman. Shortly after, he went to Hardrock Gold Mines which was under construction.
Here he began working as a carpenter which included building the houses in Hardrock
townsite.
Later on, after leaving the mines my father became a proud journeyman and finishing
carpenter.
Plus he always felt that he owed his success to the gold mines of Geraldton.
